  • 04/01/18 – Random Spawning

Today we worked on the random spawning. This was difficult as we had to find the speed and interval at which the enemies should spawn in lieu of tomorrow. But this has turned out really well. For the FMP we will be investigating pooling to make the game run a lot smoother and make the game easier for the PS4 to handle. As for the moment, taking into consideration the timeline, we will be sticking to the basics and expanding later.

We are currently on schedule for Week 2.

  • 18/12/17 – Basic AI

Today we worked on the basics of the enemy AI. To start with, we created an object for the enemy, then progressed to making it follow the player. This basic movement will act as a base for the more intelligent AI that will be implemented for the FMP.

We are currently on track for Week 2.

  • 15/12/17 – The turret’s bullets

For the turrets bullets, we attached a script to the camera which spans in an object which is then fired in the direction the player is looking. This works really well so will be used in the final design, however we do need to look into despawning the bullets when getting out of range or collide with an enemy (when they are implemented). Here is the code to spawn the bullets:

We are on track for Week 2, and have successfully completed everything in week 1 on time.

  • 14/12/17 – Turret positioning

Today Tom and I worked on the positing of the turret parts around the camera. This is of course a temporary thing before assets are imported in the FMP, but will help us to guage what the finished parts of the ship will look like from the players point of view. So to do this, we created two cylinders positioned them next to the camera and grouped them together.

  • 11/12/17 – Camera Movement

Today Tom and I worked on the camera movement of the player in unity. This went very well and no issues were found. Below is a photo of the code used on the camera module

This would work well for us in the final E3 game as the camera functions with no issues, making it a successful mechanic. We are currently on schedule for Week 1.

  • Starting the prototype

Today we started building the prototype for the game. Will continue to develop the game and investigate further tomorrow.

  • Presentation Day v2

Today the group had the opportunity to present our work to a handful of people, which gave us the all clear to go ahead with the idea and prepare the pitch for PlayStation.

This was very useful as it gave us the opportunity to bounce our ideas off of more experienced people, which has come in really handy and will help us to further develop our ideas.

  • Presentation Day

Today the team waited to be asked to present the pitch, but they did not get round to us. Preparation will continue for the pitch on Thursday.

  • Survey Results

After leaving the Survey to run for a couple days, I asked Charlie to write up the results and send them to me, and then proceeded to use these to create a demographic for the presentation, as well as finalising the presentation ready to present it tomorrow with the rest of the team.
